About course

Rheumatologists receive years of education and training beyond college. After they earn a medical degree (four years of medical school), they complete a residency program in internal medicine or pediatrics. They have another two to three years in specialized rheumatology training.
DM in Rheumatology is a 3-year full-time postgraduate course divided into 6 semesters. Rheumatology is a subspecialty of internal medicine concerned with:

of disorders relating to joints and adjourned tissues. The discipline is a specialty of medicine dedicated to disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Enrolled students are taught to treat such patients of all age groups.
Rheumatologists are exceptional physicians because the diseases we deal with are multisystem, demanding a broad knowledge of all subspecialties of internal medicine. The rheumatologist is often thought to be the most complete physician at an institution, the one to go to to help figure out the most difficult cases.

Rheumatologists must complete four years of medical or osteopathic education followed by three years of residency training in either internal medicine or pediatrics. Some rheumatologists are trained in both. After residency, they must enroll in a rheumatology fellowship for two-three years to learn about chronic musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions and their treatment. Rheumatologists then take a board examination to become board certified in rheumatology. This certification/exam has to be retaken every ten years. Eligibility criteria

  • Post-graduation (MBBS or equivalent degree), completed from an institute recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or any of the State Medical Councils.
  • A minimum aggregate score of 55% (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the level of post-graduation.
  • 1- year compulsory rotating internship.
  • Preferably, a minimum of 12 months of professional experience, as most reputed institutes prefer candidates with work experience.

UG: Candidates must have passed 10+2 with at least 50% marks in aggregate with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. Independent entrance tests for the UG program (MBBS) are conducted by various state, central, and private universities.
PG: Candidates must hold a degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) along with MD (Medicine) to become eligible for the 3 year DM (Rheumatology) program.
