JEE OVERVIEW

JEE full form is Joint Entrance Examination, which is a highly competitive entrance exam for admission to various undergraduate engineering and architecture courses in prestigious colleges across India. It is conducted in two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

Therefore, The Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is the first stage of the exam. It is a computer-based test that comprises objective-type questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It is conducted in multiple sessions, and the best score of the candidate is considered for admission.

After that, Advanced is the second stage of the exam and is conducted by one of the IITs on a rotational basis. Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. It is also a computer-based test and comprises objective and numerical type questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

The JEE score is one of the most critical factors for admission to engineering and architecture courses in prestigious colleges like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). For instance, The exam is difficult to crack in this cut-throat competition, making it one of the toughest exams in India.

IIT JEE
As I examine, Main is conducted twice a year, usually in January and April. The exam is held in multiple shifts over several days to accommodate the large number of candidates appearing for the exam. The exam pattern comprises 90 multiple-choice questions, with 30 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and the duration of the exam is three hours. The total mark for JEE Main is 300.

Meanwhile, Advanced is conducted once a year, usually in May. The exam pattern comprises two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of which is three hours long. Paper 1 comprises multiple-choice questions, while Paper 2 comprises questions that require numerical answers. The exam is designed to test a candidate’s analytical and problem-solving skills, and the total mark for JEE Advanced is 372.

Apart from IITs, NITs, and IIITs, JEE scores are also accepted by other reputed engineering colleges across India. The competition for JEE is intense, with lakhs of students appearing for the exam every year, and only a few thousand securing admission to top-ranked colleges.

Most importantly, In recent years JEE has undergone several changes, including the introduction of new exam patterns, eligibility criteria, and changes in the application process. However, the core objective of the exam remains the same – to identify the most talented and deserving candidates for admission to prestigious engineering and architecture courses in India.
