Takes up the majority of their time

Whether they like to admit or not, students, consciously or unconsciously, start their day by sending good morning snaps and end it by a good night text. It is quite rare to come across a student who does not engage on social media platforms and these students are often met with wide stares a“What? Why? Are your parents strict??” and what not! The effect of social media is so prevalent that even if the students try to avoid it, once they’ve got their hands on the smartphone, it’s hard to put it back, making it similar to any other form of addiction. The easiest solution to this problem is having a strong will and realization. No child likes being told what to do; instead of being harsh on their children for spending too much time on social media, parents must instill the realization into their kids that it affects them negatively. Once this is done, the student will have little trouble in backing and themselves will realize the importance of every passing second and learn for the better. This point is defining how social media becoming a barrier for class 12th student.

Distracting Machine

How many times have we heard teachers telling their students that their: “body is present in class, but their mind isn’t”? Too often. This is the direct result of using too much social media. Despite engaging in academical activities, students find it harder and harder to focus on the task at hand as they quite often find themselves thinking about anything and everything but the work they are supposed to be doing. Studies have shown that children who use too much smartphone are at a higher risk to develop ADHD symptoms, clearly implying that it reduces one’s attention span. Students tend to use social media on their smartphones and stare on a 5-inch screen all day long thereby exposing themselves to the above-mentioned problems.

Harnesses the ability to engage in ‘real’ communication

We have all come across videos, photos, news articles about how human population is so busy “connecting” on social media that they have forgotten how to engage in a real conversation. The case is no different for young minds, some believe it happens to be more fatal to students as they have a lot yet to achieve in their life ahead. One of the many key qualities in a student is the ability to be good at communication. Students with good speaking and communication skills have their way paved more easily than students who do not. It helps them secure better roles and better jobs and thus, having a better future.

Bullying

With the advancements in technology, more reformed laws are being put to practice when it comes to cyber-crime, however, this doesn’t completely negate the fact that there are thousands, if not lakhs of students who get cyber bullied every day on various platforms. Incidents as such can have a devastating effect on a child’s mental health and peace of mind because it has the ability to scar them for life. Effects like these, hamper a child’s ability to focus on anything else, let alone their studies. It ruptures their self-esteem to the point where it becomes difficult for them to face people and form new relationships in their future.

With a new social media platform or feature becoming “a hype” every other day, it is virtually impossible to not be on any platform. Therefore, the best practice for students to adapt is to find ways that social media can help their growth by minimizing the effects of the disadvantages and amplifying the positives. In this article, we gave you a few points on how social media becoming a barrier for class 12th student.
