Established in 1993, the Academy of Maritime Education and Training, also known as AMET University, is the only university from India to be a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities. The institute is regarded as a university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). The Academy of Maritime Education and Training is ranked 76-100 for Private MBA by NIRF 2019. The institute started with just 14 cadets in 1993 for a career in the Merchant Navy has now more than 3,000 cadets enrolled pursuing programmes through four schools and two intensive research and training centres for marine and marine-related activities. The Academy of Maritime Education and Training offers 33 various programmes ranging from Diploma to Doctoral programmes across seven streams, including Technology, Science and Management..

AMET Deemed to be University has endeavoured to make its students fare exceptionally well in the life beyond the Campus. The University had installed the infrastructure, employed well experienced faculty, designed, and delivered programs that help enhancing the communication, soft skills, aptitude, and technical skills which are required for making the students employable. Scholarships
Scholarship 1
Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) is assisting deserving students to get their scholarships from various Government Departments like Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department of Government of Tamil Nadu and Minority Community Welfare Department of Government of Tamil Nadu and the Director of Fisheries, Government of Tamil Nadu. Apart from Government Scholarship, deserving students are also eligible for Maritime Training Scholarship, Merit award, and Management Scholarship.
Eligibility criteria for Post Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/Converted Christians from SC:-
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Converted Christians from SC
- Father’s annual income should not exceed INR 2.00 lakhs/Candidate’s father’s annual income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakhs for those who are working in the Government Departments.
Eligibility criteria for students belonging to Minority Community:-
- The candidate belongs to a Minority community
- Candidate’s father’s annual income should not exceed INR 2.00 lakhs/Candidate’s father’s annual income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakh for those who are working in the Government Departments.

Scholarships provided by AMET:-
Shree Janakiraman Scholarship:-
- AMET University is offering fee concessions to Students from an economically backward family who are not affordable to pay the fees regularly. Whenever the request for a concession is received from the Student and the same is submitted to Vice Chancellor for consideration. After a review of the application case by case, this application is placed before the committee for approval and sanction the eligible amount. The Students who are deserved to get financial help from the management are awarded this scholarship in the name of Shree Janakiraman.
Meritorious Student Scholarship:-
- The University is awarding Meritorious Student Scholarship to the outstanding students who have secured more than 90% of marks in their Higher Secondary Examination. The eligible students will get 15% of Tuition fees as fees concession for all four/three years of course. The applications are verified and submitted to Vice-Chancellor. All applications are placed before the committee for recommendation and sanction.

Academy of Maritime Education and Training is also known as AMET as per the official website the top recruiting companies were Maersk, Shell, Selandia, Fleet, DHL, Transworld, Beta, and HCL. University has a Placement Department which co-ordinates with the companies for the on-campus placement and tracks the progression of passed out students.
For Marine Engineering, placements begin in the 1st year itself. Maersk Line is a bulk recruiter from this college throughout. Most of the multinational companies include CHEVRON, SEA TEAM, GOOD WOOD, SHELL which are shipping Giants.

Mrs. Amirthavalli.V has been working as an Assistant Professor at Academy of Maritime Education and Training, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She has done B. Tech in Chemical Engineering and M. Tech in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals as part of her academics. She has an amazing experience of 18 years in education and industry. She is skilled in using design software PRO SIMULATOR, DESIGN-II, CENTUM CS3000 etc. along with deep knowledge of C, C++, VC++ programming languages. She has published 4 research papers in national and international journals. Dr. A Rajesh Kanna Interview is a Professor in the Amet University, Chennai. He graduated with B.Tech in Petrochemical from Prestigious Bharathidasan University Campus, Trichy and Completed M.Tech in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals from Esteemed Anna University Chennai Campus. He started his career as Lecturer at Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering, Chennai during 2008. He further did Ph.D from globally recognized Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT M) in Petroleum Engineering. Dr. Rajesh is a recipient of Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD. He has published more than 35 research articles and Presented more than 20 papers in National and International Conferences. He is recipient of Bharat Ratna Dr. Radhakrishnan award for his achievement in Research during 2019.
Dr. T. Nagalakshmi is the Professor and Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department at the Academy of Maritime Education and Training. She is a motivating and talented Petroleum Engineering Professor driven to inspire students to pursue academic and petroleum industry professionals globally. She is credited with transforming the Petroleum Engineering department into a national impact and global recognition by organizing various national and international level conferences, symposiums and webinars with the SPE student chapter. She has taught subjects like petroleum geology, oil and gas evaluation, economics, and evaluation, reservoir rocks and fluid properties, unconventional hydrocarbon resources, reservoir management, enhanced oil recovery, well design and completion, formation evaluation, oil and gas management, field development plan, petroleum exploration, petroleum project management for B.E and M.E Petroleum Engineering students for the past 16 years in Anna University Affiliated Engineering College and at AMET. She was a member of the Board of Management for the past 6 years and a member of the Academic Council for the last 7 years. She was also the conference chair for many national and international level conferences. Few other roles she holds to her credit are of Internal ISO Auditor, member of the Malpractice Committee and Faculty Grievances Cell. She has authored and published many articles in prestigious journals. She has also produced PhD degree holders and also guided Ph.D. full-time and part-time research scholars.
