The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are considered as premier technical institutes in India and are known for their quality of education and research.

Stream Selection Options

While opting for the branch, the student should think about the passion he/she carry within them. And, in India, the vast number of selection in branches are available in IIT as compared to other engineering colleges

They provide A full-time B.Tech degree in core branches as well as other fields too.

  • Aerospace(4 years)
  • Agriculture and food engineering(4 years)
  • Architecture(5 years)
  • Biotechnology and biochemical engineering(5 years)
  • Bio-engineering and biomedical(5 years) and many more.

On the other hand, the private colleges mainly comprise of core branches such as Electrical engineering (4 yr), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (4 yr), Mechanical Engineering (4 yr), Civil engineering (4yr), Computer science (4yr.).

Funding by Government

There are around 23 IIT colleges that offer B.tech and M.tech courses. IITs receive Rs. 90-130 crores funding per year . Due to the difference in funding structure the quality of infrastructure and other lab facilities also differ as compared to private colleges. There is one more procedure for funding that the IIT’s use, i.e. they use the contributions made by alumni for various purposes including setting up infrastructures such as hostels, laboratories, innovation centers, and other non-academic facilities.

Ratio of Students & Teachers

Ajaz (96)

The ideal ratio between students to teacher is 16:1. And, the IIT’s have a ratio of 10:1 approx. Whereas if we look over the private colleges the ratio stands for 27:1 approx.

With this difference we can state that each teacher can effectively spend more time on one student’s progress and help them to learn more, also the teaching process for a particular teacher becomes more effective and efficient for a long term of time.

The Faculties

As compared to private colleges’ teachers, the IIT’s teachers carry more specific qualifications as they are experimenting and researching in a different form of subjects.

The IIT’s educators qualify as being a scientist, ex-scientist or were industrialist experts. However, the private colleges’ educator carries a qualification of being knowledgeable in that particular subject.

Internships

Internships play a major role in a student’s career. As it allows students to learn new skills and gain real world experience.

The 3rd year training programs allow the student to go beyond the bookish knowledge and help them to have a piece of practical knowledge.

For example, a 3month summer internship in Microsoft, Google, etc. While other private colleges students have to look around for private companies who are giving a chance of certification or other training institutes.

Placements

While considering this point, it is clear that the tag of being an IITian helps a lot of job seekers to attract top-notch companies. The student who has passed out from such a prestigious college can apply in foreign companies too.

If we look the last year’s status then around 4000 jobs in two days were provided by the companies in IIT. These companies include Microsoft, Sony Japan, Google, Qualcomm, Intel, and Samsung R&D. These companies are among the top recruiters.

Working Culture

As thinking about the facilities provided to the faculty members. They are provided with nominal rented accommodation. These facilities also include other perks too.

But, always remember that: “Education is the part of your life cycle, which may deeply allow you to achieve whatever dream you felt for yourself. Thus, carry the knowledge to gain something and spread better tomorrow in the world.”
