NEET Syllabus: Exam Pattern, and Weightage 2023

NEET, which stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is an all-India level medical entrance examination. It is the primary exam for students seeking admission to undergraduate medical and dental programs in Indian universities. The exam is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and consists of three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Additionally, NEET has replaced all other medical entrance exams in India and is now the only test recognized by the Indian government for admission to medical and dental colleges.

NEET Syllabus

The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) syllabus is designed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and it covers topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology) of classes 11 and 12 of the CBSE curriculum. The detailed syllabus for NEET 2023 is not yet announced, but students can refer to the previous years’ syllabus for an idea of the topics covered in the exam.

The NEET syllabus for Physics includes topics like Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrodynamics, Optics, and Nuclear Physics. The syllabus for Chemistry includes Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. The Biology syllabus covers topics like Diversity in Living World, Structural Organisation in Animals and Plants, Cell Structure and Function, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology and Its Applications, and Ecology and Environment.

It is important to note that the NEET syllabus is quite vast, and students need to have a thorough understanding of each topic to score well in the exam. Students are advised to follow the NCERT textbooks and reference books recommended by experts to prepare for NEET.

NEET Exam Pattern

The NEET exam pattern consists of a total of 180 multiple-choice questions, with 45 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. The exam is conducted in offline mode, where students have to use an OMR sheet to mark their answers. Each question carries 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer.

The duration of the exam is 3 hours, and it is conducted in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, and regional languages. The question paper is based on the syllabus prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and covers topics from Class 11 and 12 in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.

It is important for students to be well-versed in the exam pattern and syllabus to prepare effectively for the NEET exam. Practicing mock tests and previous year question papers can help students get a better understanding of the exam pattern and gain confidence before the actual exam.
