Eligibilty Criteria

Candidates who are interested in applying for this post must fulfill the basic eligibility criteria required which are their educational qualification, nationality, age limit, and some more.

Educational qualification

Candidates who are applying for this post must have done at least a diploma in the relevant subject of the engineering stream with at least 70% marks. The minimum marks for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PWD category vary.

Candidates applying for this post must be of Indian nationality.

Age limit

Candidates applying for the NTPC diploma trainee recruitment 2022 must be below 27 years. The relaxation for the category candidates is as under: -

Exam Pattern

Candidates who have applied for this post have to go through 2 stages of a written test. And candidates qualifying for stage 1 with at least 40% marks could only move to stage 2. There is also a negative marking in both stages as 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer.

Stage -2

Candidates who have cleared stage 1 with minimum qualifying marks are promoted to stage 2. In this stage, candidates are asked questions related to the relevant discipline according to the discipline applied.


As the online test is divided into two stages, the syllabus also is according to that. For stage 1 the syllabus of written test nature and for stage 2 it is somehow comprehensive in nature.

For Stage 1

The syllabus comprises general English, quantitative aptitude, and reasoning aptitude. Below are the subtopics of these: -

General English Cloze test, sentence structure, spot the error, vocabulary, one-word substitutions, comprehension passage, idioms & phrases, spellings, sentence improvement, etc.
Quantitative aptitude HCF, LCM, fractions, simplification, algebra, profit, loss & discount, time & distance, time & work, etc.
Reasoning aptitude Figure series, analogies, coding & decoding, number series, alphanumeric series, word formation, etc.

For Stage 2

In stage 2 questions are asked on the basis of a relevant disciple according to the field selected. Candidates are only allowed for stage 2 when they score at least 40% in stage 1.
