Roorkee has the glorious distinction of being the fountainhead of engineering education in India. It is well known for its contribution in evolution of the modern technology by starting Roorkee College in 1847. Col. P.T. Cautley, an officer in the British Army, was most instrumental in constructing the canal. Roorkee College of Engineering (RCE), Roorkee is awarded the “Best Upcoming Engineering College in Uttarakhand Award” under CMAI National Uttarakhand Award Jointly by CMAI, AICTE, UTU and awarded the “Best Technical Institute in Uttarakhand Award” by CMAI, AICTE, and MTU. RCE offers undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programs in the discipline of Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Tourism Management, etc.
