About
Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) formerly known as Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences came into existence on November 15, 1992 as a result of the agreement signed between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Pai Foundation, with the aim of imparting exemplary education and health care services in the state of Sikkim and country wide. It is the first ever Public Private Partnership in the country for higher Education and Health Care Services. The University has two campuses: Medical campus and the Technology campus. Government of Sikkim provides a grant of Rs. 2.25 Crores per annum for the hospital against which CRH provides free treatment to BPL families and concessional treatment to other residents of the State.
The University was established in 1995 vide Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences Act (Act No. 9 of 1995). SMU is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 vide letter No F. 9-7/96(CPP-I) dated 9th Dec 1998 and approved by the Government of India.

Hegi Family Career Development Center
Providing all SMU students with services including cover letter and résumé review sessions, interview prep workshops, access to Handshake, an online internship and job board for SMU students and alumni, invitations to on-campus employer recruiting events, and 1:1 career counseling appointments designed to assist students in navigating their internship and career paths.
Cox Career Management Center

**The scholarship will also be applicable to the economically weak students based upon the income of the guardian/ parent subject to recommendation by the institutional scholarship committee on case to case basis along with verification of requisite documents.

SMIT hostel rooms are double bedded with attached toilet, comfortably-furnished and make for a good home away from home. Girls and boys have separate blocks and each block has a fixed capacity.
Cot, ceiling fans, reading lights, mattress with cover, bed sheet, pillow & pillow covers, bucket & mug are provided free by the institute to first year students.
In this kind of accommodation, students have access to TV room ( Indoor for girls hostel & in amphitheater for boys hostels) , Water Coolers for RO fed cold and normal drinking water and other leisure/sports activities within the hostel premises. Also includes the following facilities:
- 24 x 7 Wi-Fi connectivity provided in all hostels
- CCTV cameras at entrances of all hostels & at amphitheater.
- 24 x 7 electricity and water supply in all the hostels
- Night cafeterias up to 1.00 AM
