About
The Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Department is the legal branch of the Indian Army. It deals with military related disciplinary cases and litigation and assists in providing legal assistance to the army in human rights matters and the rule of law among other things.
Latest Notification
Indian Army has released notification for vacancies in the Judge Advocate General (JAG 29) roles on January 19, 2022. A total of 9 candidates will be recruited to fill vacancies and out of which 6 eligible men and 3 women will be recruited. Candidates passing the selection process will be eligible for the post. The online application process began on January 19, 2022, and commenced on February 17, 2022.
Registration
It is advisable for all the candidates to apply for the exam only after checking the eligibility criteria. Candidates must fill out and submit the Indian Army JAG Recruitment application form via online mode to appear in the exam. Applications will only be accepted online on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. Candidates can follow the following steps to fill out the application form for the Indian Army Recruitment exam.
- Click on ‘Officer Entry Apply/ Login’ and then click ‘Registration’. Fill out the online registration form after reading the instructions carefully.
- After getting registered, click on ‘Apply Online’ under Dashboard. A page ‘Officers Selection - Eligibility’ will open. Then click ‘Apply’ shown against the Short Service Commission JAG Entry Course.
- A page ‘Application Form’ will open. Read the instructions carefully and click ‘Continue’ to fill in details as required under various segments. ‘Save & Continue’ each time before you go to the next segment.
- After filling in details on the last segment, you will move to a page ‘Summary of your information’ wherein you can check and edit the entries already made. Only after ascertaining the correctness of all your details, click on ‘Submit’.
- Candidates must click on ‘Submit’ each time they open the application for editing any details.
- The candidates are required to take out two copies of their application having Roll Number, 30 minutes after final closure of online application on the last day.
Documents Required for Indian Army JAG Application Form 2022
The required documents of the candidates are listed below.
- Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card
- 10th Class Certificate and Transcript.
- 12th Class Certificate and Transcript.
- Graduation Degree/ Provisional Degree (in case of three years LLB after graduation).
- LLB Degree/ Provisional Degree.
- Transcripts of all years/ semesters.
- Registration with Bar Council of India/ State or Certificate from college/ University that the LLB Course in the said institution is recognized by Bar Council of India.
- Certificate issued by the University regarding formulae for conversion of CGPA/ Grades into marks followed by the University.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria for the Indian Army to appear for the exam. The eligibility criteria have four components:
Educational Qualifications
The aspiring candidate should be a graduate of the Law Degree either 3 years or 5 years with a minimum 55% aggregate. Additively the candidate must also be registered with the Bar Council of State/ India.
Age Limit
To apply for the Indian Army Recruitment of JAG in the Short Service Commission, the candidate should be a minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 27 years. The selection committee will consider the age according to the matriculation certificate.
Nationality Criteria
As per the official notification, the candidate must be from:
- A citizen of India
- A citizen of Nepal
- A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia, and Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A certificate of eligibility will, however, not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
Physical Standard Conditions
The candidates are required to be a minimum height of 157 cm along with a minimum weight of 60 kg. Additively, the chest measurement of the candidate must be 80 cm and with expansion, it should measure at least 85 cm.

Exam Pattern
There is no written exam.
There is an SSB interview after clearing the SSB exam you will go for a medical examination after clearing your medical examination there will be a final merit list on the basis of the merit list you will be called for training at OTA.
However, for Indian Army MTS, candiates must apprear in both written test and Oral. Here is the exam pattern of Indian Army MTS written exam:
