Eligibilty Criteria

The basic criteria for students to give the National Cyber Olympiad exams are, that they must be studying in any recognized education board (i.e., CBSE, ICSE, etc.) in India. Students from 1 to 12 can participate in this exam, and there is no minimum marks bracket to be eligible for this exam. Many exams under SOF have 2 level examinations, but National Cyber Olympiad has only one level of examination, i.e., a single-level exam.

Exam Pattern

The students must be familiar with the pattern of the exam before appearing for the exam. The exam pattern for SOF NCO is available on the website of SOF. There are separate question papers for all the classes, based on CBSE, ICSE/ISC and state board syllabus. The students can check the duration of the exam, type and number of questions, marks for the exam etc from below.

  • Type of Questions: The questions are of objective type with multiple-choices.
  • Duration: The test is for a total duration of 60 minutes.
  • Medium of Test: The questions are asked in English only.
  • No. of Questions: There are 35 questions for class 1 to 4 and 50 questions for class 5 to 10.
  • No. of Sections: There are 3 sections in the test names of which are given below.
  1. Logical Reasoning
  2. Computers and Information Technology
  3. Achiever’s Section
Syllabus

The syllabus is divided into three sections. The questions are mainly based on Windows 7 and MS office 2010.

  • Section 1 comprises patterns, classifications, analogies up to grade 5 and from 6th onwards, the questions are from verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
  • Section 2 comprises the topics that are Fundamentals of Computers, Hardware, Evolution of Computers etc.
  • Section 3 comprises the same topics that are in section 2, but the level of the questions are slightly tougher. This section can be started when students have completed the previous actions.

Syllabus for Grade 1 Patterns, Completion of Figure Pattern, Measuring Units (Length, Weight, Time and Money), Geometrical Shapes, Odd One Out, Spatial Understanding, Grouping of Figures, Analogy, Ranking Test.

Syllabus for Grade 2 Computer IT has Computer-a Smart Machine, General Information about Computers, Parts of Computer, Uses of Computer, Learning to use Keyboard and Mouse, MS-Paint, Latest Developments in the field of IT.

Syllabus for Grade 3 - Coding - decoding, analogy and classification, mirror images, embedded figures, alphabet test, ranking test, a grouping of figures, geometrical shapes, figure matrix, possible combinations, days and dates and computer & IT. Computer and IT has the topics such as Fundamentals of Computer, General Information about Computers, Storage Devices, Parts of Computer, Uses of Computer, Input and Output Devices, Introduction to Internet, MS-Paint, Introduction to MS-Word (Opening, Closing, Saving and Printing a Word document, Components of MS-Word window, Editing commands like Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo and Redo, Moving in a document using Home and End Keys), Latest Developments in the field of IT.

Syllabus for Grade 4 - Alphabet test, coding-decoding, patterns, geometrical shapes, solids, direction test, mirror images, embedded figures, ranking test, days and dates and possible combinations, analogy, classification.

The topics in the computer IT are Evolution of Computers, Parts of Computer, Input and Output Devices, Hardware, Software, MS-Word(Formatting a Word document, Font group, Format Painter, Search using Find and Replace option, Checking Spelling and Grammar using Thesaurus), Using Windows 7, Introduction to the Internet and Its Uses, Computer Networks, MS-Paint, Latest Developments in the field of IT.

Syllabus for Grade 5 Analogy and classification, coding-decoding, mirror images, geometrical shapes, water images, direction test, mirror images, ranking test, alphabet test, logical sequence of words, puzzle test, embedded figures and computer & IT. The computer IT consists of the topics like Input and Output Devices, Hardware, Software, Storage Devices, Memory –Primary & Secondary Memory, MS-Paint, Introduction to Multimedia, MS-Word (Paragraph formatting Using Paragraph group, Drop Cap, Document Views, Inserting Graphics-Pictures and Shapes, Clip Arts, Symbols, SmartArt, Multimedia Objects, Text Box, Inserting Header and Footer in a document and exploring its features), Introduction to MS-PowerPoint(Component of MS-PowerPoint window and its features, Inserting Graphics-Pictures and Shapes, Clip Arts, Symbols, SmartArt, Multimedia Objects, Text Box, Inserting Header & Footer and exploring its features, Running slide shows, Presentation Views), Internet, Computer Networks, Using Windows 7, Latest Developments in the field of IT.

Syllabus for Grade 6 - 

Section 1 - Reasoning: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

Section 2 - Computer & IT: History and generations of computers, types of computers, MS Windows, MS Word - Working with charts & tables, page layout, arranging multiple windows of a document; MS Powerpoint - creating a presentation using animations, custom animation, transitions, creating new slides using slides pane, outline pane and slides from an outline, working with handouts and notes master, arranging multiple windows of a presentation, working with charts and tables; internet & e-mail, introduction to QBasic, Hardware, software, Input & Output devices, Memory and Storage devices, and last but not the least latest developments in the IT sector.

Section 1 - Reasoning: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

Section 2 - Computer & IT: Fundamentals of computer, the evolution of computers, memory and storage devices, Windows 7, MS Word - Links, mail merge, macros, exploring styles group; MS Powerpoint - working with slides master and themes, advancing slides using hyperlinks and actions, customising and broadcasting slide shows; MS Excel - Components of MS Excel, Editing and formatting cells in a worksheet, introduction to formulas, sorting and filtering data, macros, features of insert and page layout tabs; programming in QBasic, internet and viruses, networking and latest developments in the field of IT.
