West Bengal Constable recruitment notification has been released for 2266 vacancies. The recruitment will take place for constables and lady constables in Kolkata Police. The application forms are live on the official website till June 27, 2022.

The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board (WBPRB) will be overlooking all activities regarding the same. Every year the Board organizes State-wide examinations for the post of Constable (Male) in WBP. Candidates who have cleared their Madhyamik exam will be eligible for this post. Unlike many other government exams, application forms for West Bengal Police Constable are accepted in online and offline modes. So, more and more aspirants apply coming from the remote parts of West Bengal where internet access is limited.

Registration

The WBPRB has uniquely designed the application process for West Bengal Police Constable exam to accept online as well as offline submission of the application forms. For the help of candidates in the application procedure, Sahaj Mitra Kendras have been set up across the state.

Online Application Submission

To submit the form online, candidates must

Visit the official website.
Open the link for “Online application for the post of Constable in West Bengal Police – 2020”.
Fill up the form with all relevant information.
Upload scanned copies of photograph and signature.
Pay the application fees and submit.

It is advisable to download, save and print out a copy of the submitted application form. A unique Application Serial Number will be generated which must be kept carefully for future reference.

Candidates can approach their nearest Sahaj Mitra Kendra to fill up their online form. The attending staff will help them with the process. They will scan and upload the necessary documents. It is to be kept in mind that no changes will be allowed after the final submission of the form, so, all details provided must be cross-checked and confirmed.

Off-line Submission of Application

Candidates submitting the application form in offline mode can carry out the process on their own or go to a Sahaj Mitra Kendra.

Firstly, download the offline form from the website of West Bengal Police.
Virtually fill-up the form providing necessary details.
On clicking the ‘Save and Download’ button, a printout can be taken of the pre-filled form.
The pre-filled form will contain the candidate's Application serial number and a bar code for authenticity.
A passport-size photograph must be pasted and a signature must be provided in the designated slots.
Original copy of application fee payment receipt or Challan (Board’s copy) generated by Postal Department or United Bank of India must be attached with the printed form.

As per the Board’s guidelines,

The pre-filled form must be printed on 75 GSM A4 size white paper using a Mono-laser jet, 600 dpi or higher, Normal print.
The envelope size must be 32 cm * 22 cm.
Name of the Recruitment, name of the post applied for and candidate’s Application Serial number must be stated on the envelope.

For both offline and online submission of the application, the candidate’s photograph and a signature will be required. However, in online mode scanned copies of the two documents are to be uploaded.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Applying candidates must be a citizen of India.

Gender: Recruitment for the post of Constable in West Bengal Police requires Male candidates only.

Academic qualification: Candidates can apply for the post if they have successfully passed the Madhyamik exam from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) or the Class 10 final examination from any nationally acclaimed Board.

Language: The candidate must be well versed in the Bengali language, i.e. he must be able to read, speak and write Bengali. However, this criterion may not be applicable to residents of the hilly sub-districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. Provisions laid down in West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 will be applicable to them.

NVF, Home Guard personnel & Civic Volunteers: These Sahayak workers serving in West Bengal Police can also apply if they have completed 3 years in their service.

Age Limit: The minimum age limit is 18 and the upper limit is 27 years, but reserved category candidates are given some relaxation in the upper age limit.

Applicants with a service background of NVF and Home Guard personnel are eligible for relaxation in age limit according to Government order. However, Civic Volunteers are exempted from such relaxations.

Payment will be accepted online through Net banking, Card, or by Challan generation at United Bank of India (any branch pan India) or Department of Post.
As a service charge, 23 INR has to be extended in favor of the United Bank of India if payment is done using Bank challan.
The Postal Department charges 10 INR if that’s how the fee is paid for the offline applications.
If taking the help of Sahaj Mitra Kendra, candidates will have to pay an extra 23 INR for online submission of the application and 10 INR for offline submission.

Exam Pattern

Candidates will have to appear for a Preliminary and a Final written test for the post of Constable in WBP. On qualifying for the preliminary test, shortlisted candidates will be allowed to appear for the Mains exam and other subsequent tests.

Prelims will be of qualifying nature only.
Questions in both phases will be of objective type.
The question paper will be bilingual – in Bengali and Nepali, except for the English section in the Mains exam.
The tests will be for 1 hour each; there will be no sectional time limit.
A total of 100 questions will be asked in Prelims and 85 in Mains.
Each question will carry 1 mark.
There will be a negative marking of 0.25 for every wrong answer.
