BMS College of Engineering is the first private sector initiative in engineering education in India. Over the past 74 years of its illustrious existence, the institution has produced more than 40,000 engineers/leaders who have enriched the world through their immense contributions for mankind. Started with only 03 undergraduate courses, BMSCE today offers 13 Undergraduate & 16 Postgraduate courses both in conventional and emerging areas. 14 of its Departments are recognized as Research Centers offering PhD/M.Sc (Engineering by Research) degrees in Science, Engineering and Management.
The College has been effectively practicing outcome based education. The College has one of the largest student populations amongst engineering colleges in Karnataka. Currently about 5000 students are pursuing their higher studies in BMSCE. More than 350 research scholars are pursuing their PhD Degree in BMSCE Research Centres. BMSCE is one of the most preferred destinations for the students from across the country which could be attributed to the quality education, infrastructure, healthy teaching-learning practices as well as producing industry ready students.

Bhawana Kanth is one of the first female fighter pilots of India. She was declared as the first combat pilot along with two of her cohort, Mohana Singh, and Avani Chaturvedi. The trio was inducted into the Indian Air Force fighter squadron in June 2016. They were formally commissioned by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. After the government of India decided to open the fighter stream in India Air Force for women on an experimental basis, these three women were the first to be selected for the program.In May 2019, she became the first female fighter pilot in India to qualify to undertake combat missions - Vishwas M - EEE 2024

The BMS College of Engineering is an independent private institution. The college is ranked among the top 100 engineering schools in India by NIRF. 13 UG, 16 PG, and Ph.D. courses in engineering and management are available at BMS College of Engineering. Research: Through its 18 departments, the college has so far submitted 61 patent applications and published various papers. In addition, 137 Ph.D. holders and 22 M.Sc. graduates have received recognition for their research accomplishments. Collaborations: To encourage industry and research training among students, the college has inked 8 national and international Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with institutions of higher learning, businesses, and research institutions over the past ten years. These agreements were made with National Aerospace Labs in Bangalore, Nopo Technologies in Bangalore, Gothenburg University in Sweden, SAII in the United States, NIPER in Kolkata, and Image Labels Pvt. Scholarships: To help students out financially, BMS College of Engineering offers them the chance to apply for scholarships. The college provides its deserving and meritorious students with two scholarship programmes. Government Scholarship and Huawei Scholarship for Excellence are two of these programmes.
