Nift Exam 2024

The NIFT Exam evaluates candidates on multiple levels, including their creative aptitude, design thinking, and problem-solving skills. The exam format may include components like the Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), Situation Test, and Group Discussion/Personal Interview rounds, depending on the program applied for.

Application Form

The will be released around the 1st week of November 2024. The admission notification and information brochure will also be released at around the same time and contain information on eligibility criteria, step-wise application process, seat matrix, and admission process.

Note that if you fail to meet the eligibility criteria, you may be disqualified at any stage of the admission process. So, apply for the exam only if you meet the prescribed criteria.

How to apply for NIFT 2024

  1. Go to the NIFT admission portal
  2. Click on the registration link
  3. In the registration form that opens, enter your name, email id, phone number, and other relevant details.
  4. On registration, an applicant account will be created
  5. Log in to fill out the rest of the form, including personal, contact, and academic details. 
  6. Upload documents
  7. Finally, pay the application fee to complete the process.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the design courses offered by the participating institute of NIFT 2024, the candidate needs to meet the program-specific eligibility criteria.


The candidate should be less than 24 years as of 1st August of the admission year.

Relaxation: There is a relaxation of five years in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to reserved categories.

Academic Eligibility

Students should have passed the 10+2 exam from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.


Students should have cleared the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.


Candidates should have obtained a 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.


Any Public School/ Board/ University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to a 10+2 system


General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate

Eligibility Criteria - B.F.Tech

Academic qualification

The candidate must have passed the 10+2 exam


A passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.


Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system.


General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

The NIFT Exam 2024 is conducted in TWO stages.

  1. Written exams, which comprise the GAT and CAT
  2. Situation Test/ Personal Interview. Candidates will be shortlisted for the 2nd stage based on their performance in the written exams.
NIFT 2024 Syllabus for Written Exams
  • Quantitative Ability: Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work, and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.
  • Communication Ability and English Comprehension: synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one-word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, comprehending a situation from a given passage, etc.
  • Analytical Ability and Logical Ability
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs
  • Note: Note that GAT is common for all programs. So, irrespective of the program you are seeking admission to, the GAT paper is mandatory.

The test is administered to evaluate the intuitive ability, power of observation concept development, and design ability of the candidate.

The candidate is not allowed to reveal his or her identity by marking the answer sheet.

Note: Only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT written exam.

Exam Pattern

The NIFT Exam2024 is conducted in TWO stages. 

  • The candidate first appears in a WRITTEN exam, and if shortlisted has to next appear in a SITUATION TEST / PI.
  • The written exams comprise the CAT and GAT and will be held tentatively in the 1st week of February 2024.
