Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) was established in 1997 by the Kuwaiti Academic Group, which was made up of 41 Kuwait University faculty members. The university was founded as an addition to Kuwait University, the sole higher education facility in Kuwait at the time, and to meet the educational needs of the community and the Persian Gulf region.

Kuwait’s Hawally was home to the university’s original campus. The university relocated in 2002 to Shuwaikh, Kuwait, where it now has its campus. There are academic buildings, labs, libraries, sports facilities, and student housing on the campus, which spans an area of 100,000 square meters.
