All you need to know about the UPSC-CSE exam

What is UPSC?

Indian Administrative Service (IAS), previously known as the Imperial Civil Service (ICS), is the Civil Services Examination (CSE) and one of India’s most premium competitive exams. It is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission that is India’s central agency, which recruits candidates into top government services. UPSC recruits candidates to both civil services as well as defense services.

Three types of services are mainly included in The civil services, namely, All India Services, Group A and Group B Central Services. 

All India Services are the prestigious:

  1. Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
  2. Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
  3. Indian Police Service (IPS)

UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 

Civil Services Examination (CSE) is one of the most famous tests directed by UPSC. It is broadly known as the ‘IAS test’ even though CSE is a typical test to select the possibility to around 24 top government services-driven organizations like IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, and so forth. 

Every year, the UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) to filter out the best candidates for these esteemed administrations. UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) includes 3 stages which are: 

  1. 1. Preliminary exam (objective)- The Civil Services Preliminary test involves two mandatory papers of 200 marks each (General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II). Prelim is a multiple choice objective type paper, and it is only a qualifying exam to proceed for writing the mains Examination. Prelims consist of two papers.   2. 2. Main Exam (written) – Mains examination will comprise nine papers. Yet, just 7 papers will be meant for last legitimacy positioning. You will also have to choose an optional subject for your mains examination. For the rest two papers, the candidate must obtain minimum qualifying marks.

The candidate’s final rank in Civil Service Exam relies just upon the scores in Main and Interview. The mains exams have 1750 marks while the interview is of 275 marks.

How to fill Online Application Form 

  • Visit the official site of UPSC – www.upsc.gov.in. 
  • Click on ”Online Application for Various Examinations” 
  • Find the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 
  • Start IAS enlistment with Part-I. 
  • Fill-up the individual subtleties, educational background, and address. 
  • Pay the application charge and select the test center as per your convenience.
  • Upload the photograph, sign, and photograph Id-card. Acknowledge the revelation. Check the total subtleties and submit them. 
  • Keep a printout of the application form for future reference.

Eligibility Criteria 

Nationality:

  • Citizen of India 
  • Candidate must be a citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan
  •  Candidate must be a Tibetan Refugee who came to India before January 01, 1962, to be settled forever in India 
  • The competitor must be an Indian Origin individual who has relocated from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Zaire, or Zambia intending to forever settle in India.

Educational Qualification

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any field from any of the recognized universities.
  •  Candidates who passing the assessment and are anticipating results or the individuals who are yet to show up to the passing evaluation are additionally qualified for the Preliminary Examination. Such candidates have to produce proof of passing the said examination and the application for the Main Examination.
  • Candidates with expert and specialized capabilities recognized by the Government or its equivalent are also eligible to apply. 
  • Candidates who have spent the last year of MBBS or any Medical Examination yet will be yet to finish the internship can likewise show up for the Main Examination. In any case, they should present a testament from the concerned University that they have passed through the last proficient medical assessment. 

 Age Limit :

 A candidate should be a minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 32 years old as of August 01, 2020. But he/she must have been born not earlier than August 02, 1988, and not later than August 01, 1999.

The upper age limit prescribed above is relaxable for the following candidates: 

  • 5 Years – Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST)
  • 3 Years – Other Backward Classes (OBC) 
  • 3 Years – Defence Services personnel
  • 5 Years – ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least 5 years Military Service on August 01, 2020. 

Number of attempts 

  • General Category -6 attempts (Up to 32 Years) 
  • SC/ ST Category – No Limits (Up to 37 Years)
  •  OBC Category – 9 attempts (Up to 35 Years)
  •  Physically handicapped- 9 attempts for General and OBC, while unlimited attempts for SC/ST category candidates
