A known fact is that most of the working professionals right now are not happy in the career they are in. They always have a sense of feeling that they don’t belong there and need to their career and quit this job. Many are forced to continue the job due to money-related problems. Some are lucky and get a chance to change their fields but before quitting and changing your line, there are a few questions that you should ask yourself. It is necessary to be 100% sure before making a career change. So, we here, at careerguide.com, are going to list a few questions that every working professional should ask themselves and answer before making a career change. The following is the list.
Do I have the right skillset and am I passionate towards for this new career?
The first thing that you need to ask yourself before making a career change is whether you have the right skillset required for the new career. It is very important to be aware of your strengths and your credentials. You may not have enough time to learn new skills to proceed in a different career in which you might not get successful. It would be really unnecessary for you to learn new skills which are not worth anything. It will cost you your precious time and money. Another question to ask yourself would be, am I passionate towards this new career. Passion is the most crucial thing which drives a working professional towards success. Always consider the possibility of whether you are passionate for it or just acting like you are. Because many people do that and end up screwing their career. Be aware of that.
Am I financially capable to struggle for a few months?
If you are planning to switch careers, one thing that you must keep in mind is that there is a lot of competition in the market. It would not be easy for you to find jobs instantly. You would have to struggle. Therefore, you must remember to ask yourself first that whether you have enough money in your bank account to survive a few months. These few months would be the period of time in which you would be practically jobless. It is very difficult for working professionals to find jobs after switching careers. Therefore, you might have to work in unpaid internships to gain experience. So, ask yourself this question.
Is more education required?
At this point of time, while a working professional is working, there would not be much time for him/her to educate themselves in higher level of studies or studying a completely different subject that they had studied before. It is important for a working professional to ask himself that whether more or new education would be required to change their career and do they have the time to devote in those studies.
What I am thinking is realistic?
Ok. So, this question might be problematic and might offend some of the working professionals but it is the truth. So, if you get easily offended skip to the next question. Many working professionals, while changing their career, have many unrealistic ideas and thoughts in their minds which lead them to make a difficult road ahead. They have too many expectations. Having expectations is human nature but having many may lead you to disappoint yourself. It may get problematic and embarrassing for them ahead in their new career. Therefore, a working professional must ask themselves whether the dream they are seeing of having a new career is realistic or not. It is essential.
Would it be worth it?
A question which would be a very good question to ask themselves is that whether, in the end, would all that hardships and work would be worth it or not. It would be idiotic of a working professional to switch their career if that new career is not making them happy and is actually more depressing and less interesting than their previous job or career. It is very important to learn about that. Also consider whether the new career you are thinking is just a phase or not. Sometimes, being in the moment and being enthusiastic, working professionals take wrong decisions and end up changing their career just for a mere phase which would eventually fade off.
So, above was the list of various questions a working professional should ask themselves before changing their career and opting a new one. Hope that it was of some help. Best of Luck!!!
