Jamia Millia Islamia may be a Central University located in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, India.Originally established at Aligarh, United Provinces (present day Uttar Pradesh , India) during British Raj in 1920, it moved to its current location in Okhla in 1935. The anti-colonial activism signified by the Khilafat and therefore the refore the pro-independence aspirations symbolised by the non-cooperation movement of the Indian National Congress helped to harness creative energies and the subsequent making of Jamia Millia Islamia. it had been given the deemed status by University Grants Commission in 1962. On 26 December 1988, it became a central university. Jamia Milia Islamia, also referred to as JMI may be a central university located in Delhi. it’s recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). it’s a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is accredited with an “A” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Najma Heptulla was appointed because the 11th Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia on 26 May 2017 and Najma Akhtar was appointed because the 15th administrator of Jamia Millia Islamia in April 2019.In 2020, Jamia Millia Islamia was ranked No.1 among the central universities in India.
