Personal development covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital, and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations. Personal development skills take place over the course of a person’s entire life. Not limited to self-help, the concept involves formal and informal activities for developing others in roles such as teacher, guide, counsellor, manager, life coach, or mentor. Personal development almost always starts with self-awareness and the ability to transform your habits.
If you’re serious about getting better at something, then one of the first steps is to know—in black-and-white terms—where you stand. You need self-awareness before you develop as a person. When you know yourself, you know which areas to work on.
For most of us, the path to personal development starts by setting a specific and actionable goal. What I’m starting to realize, however, is that when it comes to actually get things done and making progress in the areas that are important to you, there is a much better way to do things. It all comes down to the difference between goals and systems.
Once you realize what your goal is and which areas you think you have to work on start at that same point, don’t wait out of laziness or leave it on tomorrow
Methods of self development
- • recognize your strengths and weaknesses
- • start working on your weakness
- • try to beat your own record on things
- • learn from your surrounding
- • don’t hesitate to accept when you are wrong because denial is harmful to this process
