The demands for economics majors have gone up due to increasing uncertainties in financial sectors daily. Economics & Business majors can make careers in sectors such as banking, consulting, finance. There are many job opportunities in the private and government sectors. Economics majors can also do MBA after graduation from a University.

Economics can provide them a solid background for the MBA. Some subjects that you learn deeply in an economics degree are History of the classical economists, modern economy, politics of economy, micro and macroeconomics. An economics program from a good university provides an extensive and critical view of both theoretical and practical points of the subject. This article is going to talk about the top seven universities/colleges in Canada to study economics. University of Toronto  

Located in Toronto, the university is famous for its economic course internationally. The course teaches students economics from many perspectives. Some of the courses it offers are financial risk management, environmental economics, and the Economics of Agriculture. There is a long list of industry-specific and interesting courses that the department of economics offers. It also offers MBA and other courses at a master’s level such as MFE (Masters in Finance&Economics). The economics department of the university here is the largest department amongst all arts & humanities departments. 

The requirements of admission are different for everyone depending on their country. For Indian Students, high school grades are required, English proficiency scores in IELTS/TOEFL are also required. Different proficiency tests depending upon your country are also accepted.

Simon Fraser University (SFU)

SFU  is famous for its research-based approach to studies. The tuition fees are dependent upon the course you choose and the number of courses you take. Minium 90 percent in 12th grade CBSE are requirements for Indian Students. If you are from the IB board then a minimum of 31 points are required for admission.

Scholarships are purely merit-based. They are given to you if you demonstrate excellent academic performance. The economics program here is taught with social sciences and business. This will give you a broader perspective on the subject. The university also offers different masters programs and scholarships. Scholarships in the master’s program are also merit-based. 

University of Waterloo 

The economics program is research and experiment based in the university of waterloo. The program aims to teach you new business developments and the use of economics in politics. The university mainly gives admission to undergraduates. The masters and doctorate programs have a really small class size. The admission requirements depend upon your country. For Indian Students, Admissions are dependent on 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade results. Proficiency in English and the background of mathematics are needed for admission. Merit-based scholarships and grants are available on a case by case basis. 

Western University

The school of social sciences at the western university offers specialization in economics along with other disciplines. The university follows a liberal arts model. Some of the courses it offers are bachelor in Politics, Philosophy& economics. It also offers specialized courses such as a bachelor’s in global economics or industrial economics. The university offers grants/ scholarships to its students. The university considers 11th and 12th-grade percentages/grades for admission.it also considers other details such as personal statements, extra-curricular activities, and so on. For international students, English proficiency is also a requirement. IELTS/TOEFL scores fulfill the English proficiency requirements. 

York University 

York University’s economics department is famous for its renowned faculty. The economics program is offered by the Department of Liberal Arts& Professional Studies. The university offers three specialization programs in economics. It offers an economics major program, Business economics program, and a financial, business & economics program. The economics department believes in empirical research and works experience to teach you the subject and to help you develop better problem-solving skills. Admissions for Indian students are dependent upon grade 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. The university may or may not require other documents after looking at your academic record. For economics majors, A student should have studied Maths in Grade XI and XII. 

The University of British Columbia (UBC)

The school of economics at the UBC is called the Vancouver School of Economics. Vancouver school of economics offers undergraduate programs, graduate programs, and a doctorate program in economics. At the undergraduate level, it offers a program called Bachelor in International economics. The program aims to teach how economic works in international relations. It also offers economics major and minor to the students. The admission approach is holistic. They consider your overall application and not just grades. The candidate should have studied Maths in Grade XI and XII to be eligible for the course.

Queen’s University Kingston

Queen’s Economics Department different courses in economics. Some of the course offers are majors in economics, majors in applied economics, and politics& economics courses for undergraduate students. A student applying for economics should have studied Mathematics in Grade XI and Grade XII. The admission requirements are different for different countries. For International students, IELTS score of 6.5, and an overall TOEFL score of 88 are the minimum requirements. The college offers scholarships, grants, loans on the basis of merit and need of the student.
