Bengaluru North institution (BNU) is a state institution in Kolar, Karnataka, India, next to NH 75 at Tamaka. By dividing Bangalore University into Bengaluru North University and Bengaluru Central University (later Bengaluru City University), the university was founded in 2017 by the Government of Karnataka by the Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2015[2].

Dr. Venugopal K R, a UVCE alumnus and principal, served as the government of Karnataka’s special officer  for the trifurcation of Bangalore University, which had over 600 associated institutions. On March 26, 2015, he turned in his report recommending the division of Bangalore University into Bengaluru City University, Bengaluru North University, and Bangalore University. C. T. Ravi, the government of Karnataka’s minister for higher education, revealed plans to split 300 colleges from the university by establishing Bengaluru North University in 2012. There have been requests to implement the original advice or even to establish four institutions.
