AYUSH is an acronym for medical systems practised in India- Ayurveda, Siddha, Yoga, Unani and Homeopathy. It brings together the rich heritage of wisdom in the indigenous medical practices of our country. Aim of AYUSH is not just the prevention of diseases, but also the promotion of health through a change in lifestyle and health practices. Courses that comes under AYUSH includes BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery), BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences), BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery), BSMS (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery) and BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery). National Institute of Homeopathy was established as an autonomous organisation in Kolkata in 10th December 1975, now affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health. This university offers 5 year-long courses in BHMS. There are 93 total seats for which selection will be based on the rank list of NEET-UG. The estimated fee for the general category is INR 1,04,450. The institute also offers masters in 6 specialized fields – Organon of Medicine, Repertory, Homeopathic Materia Medica, Homeopathic Pharmacy, Practice of Medicine and Paediatrics. Candidates applying for admission in postgraduate courses should have completed BHMS with minimum required marks and should clear NEET-PG examination. This institution comes under AYUSH Ministry.

National Institute of Siddha was established in November 2005 in Chennai, jointly under the Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu. This research-oriented university offers courses in the Master’s Programme and Doctoral programmes in Siddha. There are 46 seats for Doctorate of Medicine (M.D) and 12 seats for PhD programme. M.D will be 3 years and PhD will be 2 years. Total fee for M.D is 1.29 lakhs. Siddha graduates who qualify the AIAPGET entrance examination can apply for the M.D program. The six specialities in M.D(S) program includes Maruthuvam, Gunapadam, Sirappu Maruthavam, Kuzhandal Maruthavam, Noi Nadal, and Nanju Maruthavam. This institution comes under AYUSH Ministry.

National Institute of Unani Medicine was established in 1984 in Bangalore jointly under the Government of Karnataka and Government of India, affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. NIUM offers Master of Surgery [MS] (General Surgery), Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Pharmacology), Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Unani Pharmacy), Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Unani), PhD (Unani Medicine), Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Unani and Tibb Surgery), Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Preventive and Social Medicine), and Doctorate of Medicine [MD] (Regimental Therapy). For MD and MS admissions, the candidates have a minimum 55% marks in BUMS degree from any recognized university and should clear NIUM PGET entrance examination. For admission in PhD courses, candidates with minimum 60% marks in M.S/M.D in the concerned field for which the candidate wants to do PhD. RGHUS conducts entrance examination based on which admission will be allotted for the PhD courses. Candidates can appear for the entrance examination in offline or online mode. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga was established in 1998, in New Delhi as the central research institute of yoga. The college offers 4 courses – MSc. in Yoga (2 years), Diploma in Yoga (1 year), Certificate course in Yoga (3 months) and Foundation course in Yoga (1 month). Candidates who have completed their 12th class can apply for any of these courses. This institution comes under AYUSH Ministry.
